Call the office 684-3164 to schedule have your permit, license or pre-application number handy when you call.

KNOWLEDGE  TEST      $25

Requirements for taking the Knowledge Test:

   - Be at least 15 1/2 years old OR if you are a driver education student, your course completion needs to have

been entered into the DOL database before you can take a KT

   - Bring photo ID (permit, state ID, driver license, passport, yearbook-something with photo and name of the applicant)

    - Bring your WDL number if you pre-applied  (we do not have the ability to look it up!)

Do you have a "WDL" number (pre-application #)?

Washington permits, ID cards, and licenses use a number that starts with WDL or the first 5 letters of your last name. This number is unique to you. If you don't have a WDL number yet, the Dept. of Licensing will assign one to you when you pre-apply. Pre-apply online WA State Licensing (DOL) Official Site: Registration

You may already have a WDL number if you have:

  • A valid or expired Washington ID card, permit or license
  • Already registered for a driver education class
  • Been ticketed in the past, like minor in possession or driving without a license.

The KNOWLEDGE TEST is a  40 question, multiple choice test based  on the WA Driver Guide. Applicants must answer 32 questions correctly to pass (a score of 80%).

The exam is the WA State Dept. of Licensing test and we administer it.  If you have any questions or concerns about the contents of the test, please contact the Dept. of Licensing / Driver Licensing/ Olympia.   dol.wa.gov

We cannot coach, teach, instruct, hint, put into our own words or review any part of the knowledge test!

The best way to successfully pass the test is to study the WA Driver Guide!  The Driver guide in a PDF format is here-   Driver Guide or pick up the book at any Dept. of Licensing office (on Wynne St. in Colville).

We offer the Knowledge Test in English, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.

We begin the Knowledge Test ON TIME! Once the Knowledge Test has begun, we can no longer admit people into the office so those taking the test won't be disturbed and we can do our job of administering the test! If there is a sign on the door that says Knowledge Testing is in progress, please respect those who have prepared and came at the scheduled time and DO NOT come in- we will not be able to help you during Knowledge Testing. Thank you!
